Opening up the creative industries to every young person
Focus Arts & Media Education CIC is a community-focused organisation established in 2025 to improve access to high-quality creative education for children and young people, particularly those from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Our work builds on the experience of Focus Film School, which has been delivering filmmaking and creative education since 2017. The CIC was established to extend this experience into social-impact programmes that provide greater access to creative opportunities.
Developing skills through filmmaking
We are beginning our work with filmmaking because it provides a powerful way for young people to explore creativity while developing practical and transferable skills.
Our workshops can introduce young people to:

Editing and post-production
More importantly, the filmmaking process helps young people develop confidence, communication, teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.
We also introduce young people to the wide range of careers available across the creative industries, helping them understand opportunities that may otherwise feel inaccessible.
Reaching young people who face barriers
We particularly want to support young people whose circumstances may limit their access to creative opportunities.
We work with schools, youth clubs and community organisations, taking practical creative experiences directly into the communities where young people live, learn and meet.

Our vision
We believe a young person's background should not determine their access to creative opportunities.
Through Focus Arts & Media Education CIC, we aim to help disadvantaged young people discover their creativity, recognise their potential and develop the skills and confidence to participate in — and potentially build careers within — the creative industries.
