Films and World Book Day Activities

clive8267

The 6th of March 2025 is 'World Book Day'. We've come up with 6 great activities to combine our love of books and of film. Use these in your literacy, digital media and arts lessons to extend and engage learners.

1) Make a list of films (or TV shows) which are based on books. Extension: describe 3 differences between the film and book versions.

2) Choose a book and create a film poster for it. Who would your lead actors be?

3) Select a favourite book and choose a conversation between two characters in the book. Now, adapt the conversation into a film script. Consider how conversations in books and film scripts differ in style and content.

4) Select a chapter or page from your favourite book and make it into a short film. We recommend selecting a chapter which is set in one location.

5) Write a review comparing a book with its film version. You might consider pace and editing, plot, locations, soundtrack, character details and mis-en-scene.

6) For debate and discussion: 'The Harry Potter books are better than the films...'
